IELTS
The letters IELTS stands for 'International English Language Testing System'. IELTS is a test administered to evaluate the English language skills of non-English speaking candidates seeking to pursue education programs or immigration to English speaking countries. There are two different IELTS tests that you can do: Academic and General. Academic is the test used for college/university entrance, whereas General is the test used for immigration purposes.
IELTS is not a test that you can pass or fail. Your assessment will be reported according to a scale from bands one to nine. The test has four components Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking. You will receive a band score for each component as well as a global band score.
The TOEFL stands for Test of English as Foreign language. The TOEFL is conducted by ETS. TOEFL assess the English Language Proficiency of the people whose native language may not be English. This is a mandatory exam for Indian students who go to USA and Canada for undergraduate and post-graduate studies. TOEFL test also has four components- Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking.
